Miri Escapade - Part 1

I was out of town from 27 ~ 29 June to pay visit to my buddy-cum-ex-colleague, Cal who now resides in Miri. I just needed to take a break from office work and draw some inspiration for my future.

I stayed at the Grand Palace Hotel during my short visit (courtesy of Cal who stays here for an entire month!). On the first night, we didn't do much except chillin' out at Al Fresco Pub which was just a stone throw away from the hotel. The crowd was ok but there's one thing which puzzled me, no one in the pub dances. Hmmm... all they did was drink, chat, flock around the pool table and that's about it. Maybe this is just the way Mirians chill out on a Saturday night.

On the 2nd day, after a simple breakfast at one of the coffee shops, Cal and I went over to a friend's house to help ignite his Skyline. Apparently his Skyline's battery got flat due to some circuitry problem. There I met up with Michael who was my Form 6 ex-classmates at GRSS. Michael is gonna be Cal's new housemate in their new house. Back to Richard's Skyline, Hee-Ho-Hum... we tried and tried and tried but to no avail. Around 11am, we all decided to go for an early lunch at one of the chicken rice shops.

After lunch, we went around town to shop for furniture for their new house. We managed to complete all the shopping by 430pm and Cal decided to bring me to the coastal area at Piasau Camp.

And guess what we stumbled upon...

Paraglider...

I really like how the colorful parachute looked with a blue, blue, blue Miri sky :)

A paraglider trying to lift his chute to catch the wind

As me and Cal were wandering around there, one of the paragliders (a guy in his 50's) came over and greeted us. He even asked if we wanted to try. Actually deep down in our hearts, we wanted to, but we respectfully declined him. Paiseh mah~.

After a few rounds of test flight around that area, they took off and glided to another part of town via the coastline (which we actually saw later on top of Canada Hill).

Alright, that's all for Part 1 of yours truly's Miri escapade. Stay tuned for Part 2!
